NTPC Ramagundam & Telangana observed World Ozone Day on September 16 with a series of environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives aimed at highlighting the importance of protecting the ozone layer and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

 

The programmes were organised by the EMG Department, NTPC (R&T), in coordination with the CHP Department, Telangana STPP, in line with this year’s theme, “Global action for a cooler planet.” The theme highlights the importance of collective efforts towards sustainable cooling and the continued protection of the ozone layer.

 

The programme began with a mass plantation drive at the CHP area near Telangana Coal Bhawan, led by Shri Chandan Kumar Samanta, ED (R&T). Shri Mukul Rai, CGM (O&M), Telangana; Shri Manish Aggarwal, GM (O&M), Ramagundam; other senior officials, NTPC (R&T) officials and contract manpower actively participated in the plantation drive.

 

As part of the environmental sustainability initiative, several fruit-bearing saplings were planted in the CHP area. Following the plantation drive, the EMG Department conducted an awareness session on the importance of the ozone layer, the significance of World Ozone Day and the need for collective efforts towards environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chandan Kumar Samanta, ED (R&T), appreciated the plantation initiative and emphasised that planting saplings should be followed by proper care and maintenance to ensure their healthy growth and survival.

 

Plastic Bottle Collection Bin Inaugurated

 

As part of NTPC’s sustainability initiatives, Shri Chandan Kumar Samanta also inaugurated a plastic bottle collection bin fabricated by the CHP Workshop. The bin will be installed at NTPC Ramagundam Township to facilitate the systematic collection of plastic bottles and encourage responsible waste management practices.

 

Students Participate in Drawing Competition and Plantation Drive

 

The EMG Department also organised a drawing competition for students of ZPH School, TTS, NTPC Ramagundam. A plantation drive was subsequently conducted with the active participation of school teachers and students to create awareness among young minds about the importance of trees and environmental conservation.

 

Shri D.S. Rawat, AGM (TS), NTPC (R&T), delivered an awareness talk to the students on ozone layer protection and environmental conservation. The winners of the drawing competition were felicitated with prizes.

 

During the programme, students were encouraged to adopt Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) practices and contribute towards sustainable living and environmental protection.

 

The initiatives undertaken on World Ozone Day reflected NTPC Ramagundam & Telangana’s continued commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable practices and strengthening environmental awareness among employees and the community.
